What the hell Dunkin Donuts?

So elusive is my favorite donut that, when I Googled it, I couldn’t even find a photograph of it. I’m speaking, of course, of the Vanilla Kreme donut. It’s identical to its sister, the Chocolate Kreme (pictured above) except for its sugar-high-inducing vanilla filling.

This weekend when traveling to visit friends and family in MA and VT I was lucky enough to snag a couple of Vanilla Kremes at a MA gas station. As I inhaled my favorite sugary treat I reminisced about the times when these beauties weren’t so difficult to find. Why is it that Vanilla Kremes seem to have vanished from all CT Dunkin Donut locations?

I remember distinctly when I first discovered that Vanilla Kremes had not disappeared entirely. I was in Daytona, FL for Nationals with my dance team when we stopped to fuel up at a Dunkin Donuts. Lo and behold, there they were. I had to fight the urge to stock up on a few dozen of the donut I missed so dearly at home. Since then, I’ve found the donut in NJ, MA, NY and VT, so why not CT?

I decided it was time for action. That is why this morning I sat down and composed the following letter to Dunkin Donuts.

To Whom It May Concern,

Let me start off by saying that I am a long time customer of Dunkin Donuts. When I was younger, I’d make weekly trips with my dad for my two favorite donuts. Now I’m 20 and even though I am not a coffee drinker, I make regular visits to DD to purchase your sugary treats.

For the longest time my regular order was one Vanilla Kreme and one Chocolate frosted with Rainbow Sprinkles.

Imagine my dismay when I discovered that Vanilla Kreme donuts were discontinued at my regular DD location!

I began a quest, searching for my favorite donut and I’ve made a troubling discovery. Why is it that in every other state besides Connecticut I seem to have no trouble locating my favorite donut?

When traveling out-of-state, I now make a point to visit a DD and indulge in the elusive Vanilla Kreme.

Please, please, bring back the Vanilla Kreme to CT!

Yours Sincerely,
Meredith

I’m not sure how long it’ll take a letter submitted via the online website to reach the big guns who can make some changes, but hopefully by the time I’m living in CT next the Vanilla Kreme will have returned to CT shelves.

If anyone has spotted the Vanilla Kreme, do leave a comment as to it’s whereabouts. My sweet tooth would greatly appreciate it!

I don’t know what is happening, but I know that the chocolate cream donut is NOT being filled properly anymore. Your lucky to get a teaspoon of filling in these. My favorite is the chocolate, but I like the vanilla and the elusive strawberry cream filling too. I don’t go to DD anymore because of this. Why should I pay top dollar for air? They used to put a quarter cup or more of chocolate cream in each donut. So no more for me.

I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about. I am In Daytona Beach, Florida and no matter how many times I complain, they refuse to put enough chocolate cream inside the doughnuts! Every now and then they will put enough chocolate cream, but for the most part, they don’t. I do feel like I am wasting my money, because there is only one or two bites with chocolate cream and the rest of the doughnut is plain and I throw the plain part away. It is so irritating and frustrating. I have been buying chocolate cream filled doughnuts for over twenty years and I think it is time to let them go if Dunkin Donuts does not care about customer satisfaction. I want to try to find a way to report them for doing this.

  5. Natalie says:

Disappointed here too! They took away the Puff on top of the chocolate and vanilla kreme donuts! As if it is not bad enough that there is already hardly any inside. Now it looks and tastes like a plain boring powdered donut!

Vanilla Creme filled are making a huge comeback. Here in the Pennsylvania area they can be found with or without powdered sugar and are not only at Dunkin Donuts, but the Speedway franchise as well. Unfortunately for me, the chocolate Creme filled remains allusive, as it is not considered as popular. I fear eventually, I will be forced to make my own.

I am so bummed out that I cant find the chocolate filled in MA. I’ve looked everywhere. Luckily I can still induldge in the vanilla.

  9. Ralph Mcculley says:

Down here in Pennsylvania they stopped making both chocolate cream and vanilla!! My wife and I are upset they were our favorite donut.

  10. Kevin Munsey says:

Consider yourself lucky. The store on Race Track Road in Tampa doesn’t even carry Chocolate filled (my favorite) or Vanilla Filled. And when I went by today, the didn’t even have any Jelly filled. Living in squalor in Tampa.

  11. Jeannie Eichenlaub says:

Jeannie in Jacksonville Fla, Well I heard we had chocolate cream filled back in town, Were is the cream inside , nothing like they used to be, Hard to find the Inside drop of chocolate cream, as I said before we can send people to the moon have electric cars, But can’t get the correct amount of cream in a doughnut,,, I Won’t be back😂😙 Can go to macdonalds and get a mcgriddle Just as Tasty and cheaper,☮

  12. Thanks for highlighting this important issue. We have a real shortage of chocolate cream filled doughnuts here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. This is not okay. Something must be done.

  13. Dunkin Hunter says:

At least you have a Dunkin Doughnut near you ours closed 5 years ago and closest is 2.5 hours away… I sooo miss both vanilla and Chocolate Kremes

  14. Jerry says:

About a million years ago in the late 80s/early 90s they had a strawberry kreme variety also which was my favorite when I was a kid, but that went the way of the dinosaurs sometime in the mid-90s. Every now and then I see a vanilla kreme filled and like the others on this forum, 90% of the time it is filled with about a tablespoon of kreme lol. Every once in awhile though I get a really good one. Krispy Kreme also makes a kreme filled variety that is far superior IMO, although it is glazed, not powdered. If you are in New York City, the Donut Pub in Chelsea makes a powdered vanilla kreme filled that is identical to the Dunkin Donuts version of yore.

  16. James Ward says:

Both versions can be found in the Chicago area, but are only found at select stores. And yes, the amount of creme pumped into them is utterly laughable. I bought three of them last week and it felt like I only had two donuts in the bag! It might cost a bit more to make them, which is why they limit their availability, but c’mon…all the plain, powdered sugar & cinnamon donuts must be pure cash cows and that larger profit margin should more than make up for the fraction of kreme donuts baked per day.

  17. Virginia Hatch says:

My husband and I decided to have a few donuts this week. we usually stop by once in a while, for our chooclate filled and vanilla filled donuts.Come to find out they discontinued them and the Price also has gone up. Why were they discontinued? Is there a chocolate or vanilla shortage?
Don’t they keep well? O just they don’t care abou the customers taste? Would appreciate knowing this.

  18. Lynn Peon says:

Haven’t been able to find the chocolate creams in nyc, but Lenox Ave & 110th St in Harlem still makes the the vanilla ones.
